If done by a professional mechanic, the oil changing process could be a fast and easy procedure in Kenya. Greasing oil in your car is important for its well-being as clean, good-quality oil will keep the engine maintained and increase the engine life. But what makes people delay oil changes? Until there is a bigger issue.
Many drivers will have their car oil replaced according to the mileage, but there could be other reasons for the replacement, such as the car's age, quality of the oil, and how regularly the car is driven. To have a clean and perfect engine greasing of new, clean oil would help. Fluid may break down over time which causes bad performance of the car, and a warning light appears.
1- Check warning light
The clearest alert about the issue regarding oil will come from the car itself. An oil change light will appear if there isn’t enough oil in the engine, and check the quantity using the dipstick. In the worst scenario, a check engine light may appear. This indicates things might have gone bad, causing the engine to be at risk.
2- Engine sputtering
Oil helps keep a defensive layer between metal-to-metal, making the engine quiet. However, if your oil isn’t doing its task properly, the engine may create noise. In worst cases, the sound increases mean the engine is tearing itself apart due to lack of lubrication.
3- Dark, filthy oil
New oil is clean and somewhat clear as its amber in color. However, usage turns dark over time due to the particles collected from the engine. Therefore, you should regularly check your oil engine oil with the dipstick to know when your oil is dirty. If you can see through the dipstick, the oil is clean, but if you can’t, the oil is dirty, so it needs replacement.
4- Smell of oil in the car
If there is an oil leak, the smell of the oil will be in the car. But if there is the smell of exhaust fumes or gasoline, the car is overheating, requiring immediate maintenance.
5- Exhaust smoke
Some clear vapors always come out through the car's exhaust pipe, but if the vapors turn into smoke, you might have an oil leak or fault in the engine. Engine check-up is required.
6- More mileage
Car oil change depends on mileage, so the more you travel in your car, the sooner you might need an oil change. New cars should get an oil change at 6,000 miles or 6 months. Most cars should get at 3,000 miles or 3 months.
Change oil on time
Oil changes are easy and cheap, so it's better to save your engine from aging quicker by getting an oil change on time. In addition, choosing the right quality oil and keeping the oil level perfect would save you from higher repair costs.
